Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Power Transmission and Distribution Business has won large transmission line contracts in Bangladesh.
According to the contract, the company will be responsible for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of extra-high-voltage transmission lines on a turnkey basis.
L&T Utilities senior executive vice-president and whole-time director Madhava Das said: “As Bangladesh aims to achieve universal electricity access this year, the enhancement of power transfer capacity will improve the reliability and efficiency of the country’s grid and facilitate integrated development of its capital and the economic growth centers.
“These projects also will give a fillip to the cross-border electricity trade. The recent wins strengthen the leadership position of our business that caters to Power Transmission & Distribution and Renewables EPC projects in the region.”
Bangladesh has initiated a programme to minimise infrastructure deficiencies and upgrade its power system to meet the increasing demand for power in emerging load centres and the Greater Dhaka region.
It has also started numerous programmes, including the construction of the country’s first nuclear power plant.
Last September, L&T’s Power Transmission and Distribution Business secured a contract for a major project in India.
The contract was for the installation of three 400kV substations and transmission lines in Telangana, as well as reactors and associated bay extensions at the substations, with more than 170km of 400kV transmission links, on a turnkey basis.
L&T also secured a contract in northern India from Aerial Bunched Cables for replacing bare conductors, alongside additional orders from ongoing transmission line projects.
