Walton has teamed up with Dolby Laboratories as a licensed manufacturer to produce sound quality televisions in Bangladesh. This makes Walton the first ever Bangladeshi television manufacturing company to become Dolby’s licensed manufacturer, who only allows its partners to use advanced sound technologies, says a press release. Dolby is a renowned US-based company specializing in audio noise reduction and audio encoding or compression. Walton authorities hoped that this partnership with Dolby would make the locally produced Walton television more acceptable in the global arena, the release added. Earlier in January this year, a delegation team, led by Walton Television’s CEO Mostafa Nahid Hossain met with Dolby Laboratories’ senior director Vivian E Vassallo at Dolby’s head office at San Francisco in California, US. In the meeting it was confirmed that Walton would be a licensed manufacturer of Dolby. Mostafa Nahid Hossain said that Dolby considered a number of factors such as a setup of well-equipped research and development (R&D) centers, international standard television production line, significant market share in the local market, global market demands and other aspects while licensing and collaborating with an organization. Engineer Rakibul Hasan, Walton TV’s central lab manager, said Walton have received permission from Dolby to use the MS12 package and Dolby AC-4 decoder. As a result, Walton will be able to use all of Dolby’s technologies, including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby Atoms, he also informed. Using Dolby’s technology will take less time and data to produce high quality sound. At present, there are 24 models of TVs in the market ranging from 610mm to 1.397m, including the 4K, full HD, HD resolution smart and non-smart LED TVs with prices range from Tk10,800 to Tk99,900 apiece.
