An Indian start-up company is planning to set up a ‘mobile refurbishment plant’ in Bangladesh. Rebest Technology Private Limited, the Indian firm, has sent a proposal to the Bangladesh High Commission in India requesting to take steps to set up a ‘Mobile/communication devices refurbishment’ plant, government sources said. The proposal, signed by Junaid Khan of the Indian company on December 27, 2019, says Rebest Technology is planning to set up a plant to refurbish old mobile phones, I-pads and other communication devices in the country. “The entire capital of around Tk 50 crore will be generated through foreign direct investment and our technology partner is a UK-based company, West One Technology, which is in this business for the past two decades,” the letter says. “The proposed plant will not only generate sizeable employment but also tackle the issue of handling old communication devices,” the letter added. In the letter, the Rebest Technology Private Limited also requested the Bangladesh High Commission to hold a meeting with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and other agencies to streamline the project. After receiving the letter, the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi has forwarded it to the secretary of Economic Relations Divisions (ERD) and executive chairman of BIDA to take further steps. It will be the first company that would like to set up a refurbishment plant for mobile telephone and communication devices in the country. When contacted, executive chairman of BIDA Md Sirazul Islam told The Independent that they had received Rebest Technology’s proposal and they were scrutinising it. “We’ll decide on the investment by the Indian firm, if the proposal is viable for the country,” he said. According to the Rebest Technology website, it is a private limited company, registered with the registrar of companies, Delhi, on November 29, 2019. It is a private company with an authorised capital of INR 10,00,000 and paid-up capital of INR 1,00,000.
