Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre to be launched in 2020

The under-construction Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre at Purbachal satellite town will be launched in December next year (2020). Ministry of Commerce informed this at a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce at Parliament Bhaban in the capital yesterday. The meeting was also informed that the estimated project cost of Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre is Tk 1,303.5 crore. Of which, China donates Tk 650.7 crore while Export Development Bureau is providing Tk 202.8 crore and government expenditure is Tk 475 crore.   Talking to the reporters, committee chairman Tofail Ahmed said the meeting reminded the authorities concerned to complete the project within the stipulated time. He said besides the exhibition centre, a consultant firm was appointed to prepare development project profile (DPP) of another project namely National Export House. Export Development Bureau will bear the cost of the project from its own fund, he added. The former minister said that the meeting recommended for strengthening the activities of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) in consultation with the ministry.  The meeting was informed that the retail and whole sale prices of essentials would be released at TCB’s website on daily basis after visiting different markets and collecting information. The meeting also informed that a total of Tk 329047,748 was spent in organizing the Dhaka International Trade Fair in 2019.
