GP posts half-yearly strong growth of Tk 70.9b

Leading mobile phone operator Grameen-phone reported a healthy revenue growth of Tk 70.9 billion for the first half of 2019, a 10.6 percent growth from the same period of last year on the bank of new subscribers and internet users. In the same period, the operator’s subscriber base grew by 8.9 per cent to 75.3 million. The company acquired 1.3 million new subscribers during the quarter, registering a 3.1 per cent growth from the end of 2018. It also obtained 1.6 million internet subscribers, which means 52.8 per cent of total subscribers of Grameenphone are using internet services. “We delivered a strong business performance during the first half of 2019 due to healthy growth in voice and data revenue, along with growth in usage and subscriber base,” said Grameenphone Chief Executive officer Michael Patrick Foley in a media statement. Net profit after taxes (NPAT) for the quarter was Tk 9.6 billion, with 26.5 percent margin. Earnings per share (EPS) for the period stood at Tk 7.07. “We continue to acquire quality subscribers and invest in network rollout, we are optimistic in delivering the profitable growth going forward,” said Mustafa Alim Aolad, Deputy CFO of Grameenphone. He also revealed Grameenphone Board of Directors declared interim dividend at the rate of 90 per cent of paid up capital.
