Togolese cotton output up 17% in 2018-19 season

Cotton production in Togo, a West African nation on the Gulf of Guinea, increased by 17 per cent in 2018-19 season to 137,000 tons, compared to 117,000 tons produced in 2017-18. However, the output was lower than the expected 140,000 tons. This was disclosed during the launch of new cotton campaign in the country’s northern region of Kara. In Togo, cotton season begins in May. The Togolese government is making efforts to boost the country’s cotton sector, and it has set the target to achieve 200,000 tons of cotton production by 2022, according to Togolese media reports.
